| Fund-raising Dinner Once again Brownbread held its annual Christmas fund-raising dinner at the Café Caricature in Hastings The Downtown Hot Five Jazz Band Louise Denny produced her usual high standard of luxury fish pie and other main dishes and sweets. Together with the raffle and very reasonably priced tickets the event raised nearly £200. Thank you to all our supporters who came to the event.
Horse Passports & the EU It was with great reluctance and a sigh of despair that we have organised the issuing of passports to all the Charity equines. We object that money donated to this Charity for the benefit of the horses and ponies welfare has to be used for the benefit and welfare of humans, i.e. the passports are to protect humans that eat horse meat from drugs that the animal may have received prior to death. They may eat horses on the continent of the EU but we don't here in the UK . Many of the larger animal charities are in favour of these passports but then they don't care about the cost as they have £millions to play with. I learned that one of these very large animal charities spends 98 pence in every pound on administration and only 2p actually goes to the hands-on animal welfare. There are arguments for the introduction of passports benefiting breed societies and preventing horse theft. DEFRA, the stick, backed up by threats of heavy fines and imprisonment for those refusing to get a passport, is simply acting as the poodle of the EU. It is just another example of Big Brother in Brussels wanting to control everything we do, riding roughshod over British traditions and forcing us to comply with continental eating requirements. Frankly the continental EU evidence on animal welfare stinks. The deliberate torturing and death of bulls in Spain continues to cheers from the crowds reminiscent of the carnage in Roman times. Dogs remain on short chains the whole of their lives as guard dogs, donkeys in Greece pushed over the edge of a cliff at the end of their lives, rams in Ceuta left with legs tied together for long periods prior to ritual slaughter by unqualified people (yes, Ceuta is part of the EU). This is the EU that we pay £36 million a day to belong to!

Sponsor a pony! With the onset of digital photography and our ability to produce finished prints on site within minutes we have more and more children coming along to adopt one of our ponies. Each child goes away with four photos showing the child with the pony
Lynn, Andy,Danielle, Maddy family visit to sponsor Many children keep hamsters or rabbits however keeping even these small animals caged up all their lives is not conducive to promoting the best aspects of animal welfare. Seeing a pony wandering around a field may be perceived as being free and certainly uncaged and is appealing to the whole family.
Jasmin sponsors “Maddy”
Madelaine sponsors “Madelaine” That's appropriate! Sponsorship is £15 to include the photos | |
